Ohio. - A gentleman who lately returned from a visit to this State, gives it as his opinion that, at the next election, the Democratic candidate for Governor will be elected by a large majority, as also a large majority of Democratic members of the Legislature. Although we have always been of the opinion that when the people were in their sober reasons, excited by no undue influences, she was strongly Democratic, the admission, by those whose political preferences are with the Whigs, strengthens our belief that she may be relied upon in future emergencies. When the people discover that they have been led astray, by false issues, and are made to feel the evil of their error, on regaining the path from which they strayed, they are strengthened in their devotion to principles, and are, perhaps less liable to yield to reason, when an error may have crept into the plans proposed by the party with which they act. The recent loss of Connecticut, to say nothing of other States that have forsaken the party now revelling in power, and the prospect of a Waterloo defeat in Ohio, must spread dismay throughout the Whig camp, casting a gloom over its prospects. Never did the leaders of a party practice greater deception upon the people than the one now in power, and the people have determined, in retaliation, to put their mark of condemnation upon them.
