According to some Advices from Corsica, the Malcontents have published a Decree, in which they declare, that in all their Negotiations with the General of the French Troops, they never pretended to prejudice in the least the Election of Baron Neuhoff in Quality of King of their Island: But the French look upon that as a frivolous Argument, and affirm, that the Prebendary Orticoni and Dr. Giafferi, who negotiated with the late Count de Boissieux, never treated about the Royalty of Baron Neuhoff in a serious Manner; and that the Count consider'd it in no other Light than a political Farce.
Other Letters from Corsica bring Advice, that a Body of 3000 French Troops having begun their March from Calvi, with two Mortars and two Pieces of Cannon, in order to attack an important Post in the Province of Balagna, the Malcontents let them approach, and then attack'd them with a Body of 6000 Men; that after a very obstinate Engagement the French were put to Flight, with the Loss of their Baggage, &c. and that Couriers were immediately dispatch'd to France with News of that Action.
