Melancholy.
On Thursday of last week, at Schodack, in Rensselaer county three children had placed themselves in a frail booth brush house, which had been made for the convenience of watching a coal pit, and in which was a quantity of straw, when it took fire, and the children were burnt to death. Checkley, a lad about ten years old, escaped from the flames, and carried another, who was also a boy about seven, till he expired in his arms--a distance of nearly two hundred paces and died himself in a few hours after.-- The youngest, a girl about four years of age, had attempted, as appeared probable from the position she was found in, to escape through the brush at a place that would not admit her--and was there found. The eldest was a son of Mrs. Spoor, a widow; the other was a son of Mr. Reynolds; the girl a daughter of Mrs. Coleman, a widow.
