Linking of the Orient with America by the establishment of a regular airplane mail and express service is contemplated by an Alaskan engineer, now in Los Angeles to investigate details of this service, according to an announcement made through the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce in the Los Angeles Times issue of August 7.
The sponsor of the idea is Jack McCord of McCord, Alaska, citizen of the north country.
The Times Story
McCord came here to confer with airplane manufacturers at the request of Maj Cecil A. James, foreign trade expert of the Chamber of Commerce, who recently toured Alaska in the course of preparing a survey as to that country's commercial possibilities for trade with this territory.
As disclosed by Maj. James, McCord is definitely planning an air mail and express service from Alaska to Japan, and expressed the opinion that it is certain the service will be linked with one of the operators now serving Alaska from the United States.
Interest Shown
Interest in Alaska and the possibilities for the development of various types of enterprise in that country are shown in the numerous inquiries received by Maj. James since his return from Alaska.
For the past week he has been contacted every day by persons interested in the business possibilities of Alaska, both from the standpoint of trade as well as looking toward the establishment of various projects there, these latter ranging from plans for a coffee shop business to the building of a complete resort city.
Data and information gathered on his Alaskan tour are now being compiled into a report or survey for distribution to chamber members, Maj. James said, stating that this material will show both advantages that will accrue to Los Angeles manufacturers in the purchase of certain raw materials from the north country as well as good markets for a variety of commodities and merchandise.
