Last night was the final summer performance of the Yellow Springs area theater. However, there will be little time for members to sneak off on vacations, for the annual winter season will start September 17, about three weeks away. The opening performance will be the famous long run play, "Life With Father."
Other presentations during the season will be "The Hairy Ape," "Volpone," "The Mikado," "Julius Caesar," Aristophanes' "Lysistrata," and "Of Thee I Sing."
Several other plays are planned also.
We were not fortunate enough this summer to be able to get over to Yellow Springs to view any of the performances, but those who did were lavish with their praise.
One performance in particular was highly applauded not so much for its content, as for its democratic casting. had a long record of invading successfully the custom of anti-Negroism. Last summer Mac Green of Wilberforce, was appointed director of the group. Arthur Lithgow, one of the most active members of the group has written several playlets aimed at racial chauvinism and prejudice.
The repertoire of the group is wide and varied, its performances always highly interesting. For the nominal admission charged the plays put on are well worth the trip to Yellow Springs. In addition, if one happens to desire a sandwich or a beer there is always the Tavern which accepts the patronage of all regardless of color.
For a winter's (or fall and spring) evening of democratic entertainment, we can make no better suggestion than to tell our readers to be certain to visit all the performances of the Yellow Springs area theater. Announcements will be made regularly in this and the other Dayton dailies.
The first one will be "Life With Father," and it will play September 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26.
