"By an officer of the United States army, who passed through this town on the 7th inst. from Knoxville, we are informed, that a war is likely to take place between the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians. The cause of the dispute is said to be -that a Chickasaw chief erected a ferry on the Tennessee river, at the crossing place from Orleans to Kentucky. A chief of the Choctaws (Double-head) sent him word that he would erect one on the opposite side of the river. The Chickasaw replied that he would take his scalp if he attempted it. The two tribes have taken up the quarrel, and, as our informant says, are preparing for war."
