Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, Archbishop Of St. Louis, Named Cardinal

VATICAN CITY (AP) Pope John XXIII today named four new Cardinals including the Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, Archbishop of St. Louis.

Elevation of Archbishop Ritter brings U. S. representation to six. The others are Cardinal Spellman of New York, Cardinal Meyer of Chicago, Cardinal McIntyre of Los Angeles. Cardinal Cushing of Boston and Cardinal Muench, former bishop of Fargo, N. D., and now a member of the Vatican Curia.

Archbishop Ritter, 68, was born in New Albany, Ind. He was ordained May 30, 1917, and consecrated a bishop on March 28, 1933.
