HARVEST SERVICE AT THE ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH.—Communion services were celebrated at the English Lutheran Church, on Sixteenth street, yesterday, and several persons admitted to membership. The church was tastefully decorated with choicest flowers from Thomas Hornbrook's celebrated garden and from Mr. Wm. Zane, on the Island. Seldom have we seen more taste displayed in arrangement, nor more beautiful flowers than Mr. Hornbrook's and Mr. Zane's gifts of yesterday. Indeed the beautiful little church was like an Eden, there being over thirty handsome bouquets, hanging baskets, &c. Rev. Mr. Goodlin assisted in the administration of the Holy Supper.

The Sunday School of this church held a Midsummer, or Harvest Service, at two o'clock in the afternoon, according to the following programme:

Hymn—"Going Home."

Doxology and Benediction.

The Harvest trimmings and Black board picture of the Sunday School rooms, were exceedingly appropriate, and called forth many commendations from the crowd present. A small sheaf of wheat and oats from the farm of Mr. Will. Cook, stood upon the desk, and back of it several stocks of weeds. Around these were flowers of richest hue and varied fragrance. The addresses were universally good, all inculcating the Scripture truth "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Mr. Zevely had a veritable wheatfield on the black-board, and a heart showing the effects of "good sowing." Miss Robertson's Department, in the "Jewel Exercises," showed a wonderful adaptation of the teacher to the little ones being taught, and, indeed, the whole service, though so quietly gotten up, evidenced thought and care, and can be written down as a grand success. Mr. Barnitz, the pastor, in his closing remarks, spoke of the great personal kindness of Thos. Hornbrook, Esq., and the many "nice thoughtful things" he has done in hours of greatest darkness and need, and the many things he is doing to help and cheer the Wheeling Mission and its missionary. The evening sermon was by Rev. Mr. Goodlin, on "The Shut Door." It was a fine effort and closely listened to by a large audience.
