WASHINGTON, NOV. 27. (UP)-
Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt today offered to appear before the Dies committee to testify concerning alleged Communist control of the American Youth Congress, and Chairman Martin Dies, D., Tex., said that she "probably" would be given an opportunity to be heard.
She charged that Chairman Martin Dies and the committee never had asked her to reply to statements made about her or concerning the youth movement by various witnesses before the committee.
Mrs. Roosevelt's statement was made at a press conference while Major Hampden Wilson of the Veterans' administration was before the Dies committee describing the American student union as the vehicle for spreading Communism in American schools. The student union is a member of the Youth Congress.
The first lady's offer to appear before the Dies committee was made in response to a request for comment on the suggestion of Alfred M. Lilienthal, New York, vice chairman of the provisional committee for American youth, that they both appear before the committee to testify concerning Communist control of the Youth Congress.
