Full Text

MARTINSBURG, July 8.

On Friday night last the house belonging to Mr. G. Wolfe, in which Mr. W. Turner resided, took fire and was entirely consumed, although the citizens were early alarmed and made considerable exertions to extinguish the flames, -but not being in possession of any implements for the suppression of fire, their efforts were ineffectual. On the succeeding morning a subscription paper was set on foot for the procurement of a fire engine, ladders, hooks, &c. and has been liberally subscribed to. This paper is now in the hands of W. T. Riddle, Esq. and as a considerable sum is yet wanting, it is to be hoped, that every good citizen, who has it in his power, will contribute something towards the accomplishment of so desirable a purpose
