The ceremony of laying the corner-stone of the new German Lutheran church, at Herr and Elder streets, Harrisburg, was observed Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the presence of a large number of people. The choir of the church, assisted by fine vocal talent of the Maennerchor Singing society, rendered appropriate and very good music. Rev. Mr. Abele, the pastor in charge, was assisted by Rev. J. G. Pfuhl, of St. Michael's German Lutheran church, this city; Rev. Mr. Shantz, of Myerstown; Rev. Mr. Mayser, of this city, and Dr. C. Hugo V. Hahn, an African missionary of note. The pastors all spoke in German excepting Rev. Shantz. After taking a collection Rev. J. G. Abele, the pastor, proceeded with the usual ceremony of laying the corner-stone. The stone is of Beaver county white sand stone, 18x16x25 inches and rests on the sand stone base on the east corner of the church, facing both streets. It is inscribed: "Deutsch Lutherische Kirche, August 29, 1886."
