"This will inform you, that we are now on our way to Pittsburgh, with a detachment of 100 men, and from thence are to proceed to Washington, in the Mississippi Territory.
Things look squally in that country. Col. Simonds, with his regiment, consisting of 400 men, descended the river for that country about two months ago; captain Johnson, from the harbor of New York, with 100 men, passed through this place on Thursday last for the same place, and a detachment of Col. Boyd's regiment from Boston, consisting of 400 men, are expected here daily, and are ordered to the same place.
Mobile I expect is our object."
