Interesting Services Yesterday—Debt Lifting Entertainment.
The exercises at this church yesterday were of an interesting character.
Rev. L. W. Roberts preached two good sermons. In the morning the discourse was on the character and work of John the Baptist.
The Sunday School at 2 o'clock was well attended. It was missionary day and a good collection was realized. On the preceding Sunday the collection was a special one and was given on the payment of the church debt. It amounted to $35.92. Yesterday those who were absent were allowed to contribute and have it applied to the collection of the preceding Sunday.
Enough was contributed to increase the collection to $37.27.
In the final struggle to pay off the debt that has so long been hanging over the church like a pall, the "Hustlers" have again come to the front and although they have already paid more than double the amount they obligated themselves to pay, they will give another entertainment to-night for the purpose of helping raise the full amount necessary to lift the debt at once. The Tom Thumb wedding, which so pleased the audience a few weeks ago will be repeated and an excellent programme will be rendered which consists of the best of talent.
They call on their friends once more to rally in their behalf. There will be no stated admittance, but a silver offering will be taken at the door. While this offering will be entirely voluntary, those having the matter in charge wish it distinctly understood that the smallest silver offering that can be given is ten cents, as that is the lowest denomination now issued in silver from the United States mint. The Tom Thumb wedding will be repeated at the earnest request of many friends of the "Hustlers," some of whom could not be present at the last entertainment, and others that were there and were so pleased that they wish to hear it again.
The following is the programme to be rendered:
Piano Solo. Miss Maggie Stalk
Piano and Mandolin Duett... Miss Jennie Wheat and Mr. William Detwiler
Recitation—Selected.....Miss Nellie Reese
Vocal Duett.. Misses Emma Goetze and Maggie Dittman.
