More than 2000 delegates are expected to attend the Second Constitutional Convention of the Ohio AFL-CIO to open Wednesday in Cleveland's Public Auditorium and continue through Friday.
The first state convention since the merger convention of 1958 will adopt resolutions to form the basis of a legislative program for next year's session of the Ohio Legislature, elect officers and hear talks by a number of top labor leaders.
Those scheduled to address the convention include William F. Schnitzler, Secretary Treasurer of the AFL-CIO; I. W. Abel, Secretary-Treasurer of the United Steelworkers; and Jacob Clayman, Administrative Director of the Industrial Union Department and former Secretary-Treasurer of the old Ohio CIO Council.
Some of the resolutions expected to come up before the convention for action will concern the need for improving the unemployment and workmen's compensation laws, an overhaul of the state's tax structure, a law dealing with the importation of strikebreakers, housing and a state minimum wage.
All sessions of the convention will be held in the Cleveland Public Auditorium. Convention headquarters will be the Pick Carter Hotel.
There will be morning and afternoon sessions of each day of the convention, starting with a morning session on Wednesday. Officers will be elected at the final session on Friday.
