Tuesday last the privateer schooner Scammell, of Boston, arrived here.--She was last week drove on the Jersey shore by a British ship of the line, a frigate, and a sloop of war, when the enemy attempted to send their boats on board to destroy her: but the crew having got some of their guns on shore drove them off. The enemy afterwards began a heavy cannonade from their ships which was returned with such effect from the shore, that the British thought proper to sheer off and stand for Sandy Hook. The privateer was soon after got off, without receiving any material injury.
