Austin Green Joins National Guard Unit

Veteran Police Officer Austin R. Green has recently joined the Greenbelt National Guard unit (29th Division, Battery A, 224th Field Artillery) as Sgt. 1st Class.

He has performed honorably with military units for many years.

In 1925 he enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard Troop D, 104th Cav. at Carlisle and was discharged in 1940 as a Sergeant. Later he was called to active duty with the Army, was assigned to the Air Transport Command training center, Camp Luna, New Mexico. He also served at the National Airport, Washington, D. C.

He was discharged from active duty on February 20, 1947. That same year he enlisted with the District of Columbia National Guard, Battery C, 340th Searchlight BN. (Later changed to 340th AAA Gun BN.) In June of 1953 he was discharged after more than 21 years of service, as Sgt. 1st Class.

He was also with the C.M.T.C., the outfit with all white horses, 6th Field Artillery at Camp Meade, Maryland.

He hopes to complete 25 years service for National Guard retirement with the Greenbelt unit.
