An advice ship is arrived here from Rio, after a passage of ninety days. This ship brings an account that the fleet was to sail in May, and were expected to arrive here about the middle of August; and that a man of war with four ships from the Bahia were expected here about the same time. It is said that the Lord Clive and Ambucade privateers, in conjunction with a Portuguese frigate and some troops, had attacked St. Sacramento in the South Seas: and after bombarding the fortifications for some time, the Spaniards were drove from them, and at last the flag was struck: by some accident, just at that time, the Lord Clive took fire and blew up. The Spaniards seeing this immediately hoisted their colours again; and the other ships were obliged to return to the Rio de Janerio. The greatest part of the crew of the Lord Clive were lost; also a ship they had taken before this happened, which was immensely rich, the treasure of which was taken out and put on board the Lord Clive. These misfortunes together affected Capt. M'Namara so much (who was then on shore) that he shot himself thro' the head with a pistol. Our accounts from the Rio also say, that the ships and troops were making preparations to attack the Spaniards a second time.
