New Variety of Turnip.--Some time ago, says the Stockton Independent, Andrew Hampton, who resides a short distance north of the Asylum, received a few turnip seeds from Scotland, planted the same, but unfortunately the squirrels destroyed the crop, with the exception of two turnips only. From there he raised seed enough to sow quite a large patch of land, and is now supplying the market with a variety of turnip, which is fast becoming a favorite, and is eagerly sought after. It is nearly of an orange color, about as large as an ordinary sized apple, quite round, solid and fine grained. is much sweeter than the White Dutch variety in common use, and altogether a valuable acquisition to the culinary vegetables produced in the gardens of this State. It appears to be a hybrid between the small English yellow, or what is known in England as "Skirving's Seedling" and the purple Swedish turnip.

Andrew Hampton received turnip seeds from Scotland and planted them, but squirrels destroyed the crop except for two turnips. From those, he raised seeds to sow a large patch and now supplies the market with a new orange-colored, sweet, round turnip variety, a hybrid between Skirving's Seedling and the purple Swedish turnip, which is becoming popular and valuable.
