On the 6th of July in the Morning I fell in with 10 Sail of Admiral Haddock's Squadron, cruising off Cape St. Mary's for the Spanish Acogue Ships. I was on board the Admiral about an Hour and Half, by whom I learnt he was determined to attack the Acogue Ships and their Men of War, and designed to cruise off the said Cape for some Time. The Officers on Quarter Deck also assured me that every Ship's Guns in the Squadron were loaded and all made clear Ships ready to attack an Enemy. It was happy for me that I fell in with our Squadron, otherwise I had been taken by a Sallee Rover, who have broke the Truce with England, and have Orders from their Bashaw to take all the British Ships they can meet with I had this Advice from our Consul at St. Lucar's in Spain.
and confirm'd to me by four of our British Captains on board the Fleet. — I was at Cadiz the 15th of June, where they were fitting out about 18 Sail of Men of War, which are ordered for the Groyne in the Bay of Biscay.
