The school bill.
A bill to equalize exemptions from executions, etc.
A bill to increase the rate of taxation five cents on each one hundred dollars.
A bill to fund the State debt at a rate interest not to exceed five per cent.
Among the most important general bills passed by the Legislature were the following:
An act repealing that portion of the Code of Practice which requires an assignment of errors.
A bill to establish a branch penitentiary at Eddyville, at a cost of $150,000, where young criminals will be confined.
A bill to equalize assessments and to establish a State Board of Equalization.
A bill authorizing County Attorneys to assist the Commonwealth's Attorneys in criminal cases, thus preventing them from appearing as prosecutor in the preliminary examination, and in the defense on final trial.
A bill to prevent the sale of liquor without license. The law heretofore allowed a person to sell in quantities not less than a quart, provided he sold nothing else and did not allow it to be drank on the premises or premises adjacent thereto.
A bill which doubled the State tax on retail liquor dealers and fixed a license tax on druggists who sell for other than medical purposes. It requires distillers to report for county tax the same way they heretofore reported for the State assessment.
A bill appropriating $12,500 for a display of State products at the Southern Exposition and New Orleans Centennial Exposition.
A bill appointing an inspector of mines defining his powers, looking to the safety of Miners.
A bill regulating the transportation of explosives by railroads, steamboats and other common carriers.
A bill exempting railroads to be hereafter built from taxation from time of commencement of work.
