CORRESPONDENCE
Plain Dealing.
Tuesday, Jan. 5.-Plain Dealing High School was reopened yesterday.
To date 1,418 bales of cotton have been ginned at the public gin in this place.
Two brick buildings now under way of construction in our town don't look like hard times.
Mr. E. S. Burt of Benton, Farm Demonstration Agent for Bossier Parish, came in yesterday.
Cotton Census Enumerator Simmons of near Alden Bridge is making one of his regular visits here to-day.
After a visit here with relatives, Mrs. W. H. Kelly and daughter left this morning for their home near Mira.
Bright sunshine for the past few days has caused gardeners to get busy. A few have already planted some of the hardier vegetables.
The brick layers have resumed work on the Purcell building. All operations had been suspended for some days, due to the freezing weather.
Rev. W. E. Collins filled his regular appointment at the Baptist Church Sunday morning and again at night. The rites of baptism were administered to two members during the afternoon.
Messrs. H. L. Boggs & Company yesterday morning vacated the store house occupied by them during the past year and the work of demolishing the building for the erection of a brick drug store by Walker Brothers was at once begun. Boggs & Company will occupy the Purcell building as soon as completed.
WEDNESDAY.
The public roads have been in a bad condition ever since the late freezes.
Mr. John Dalrymple, now living at Ida, passed through here yesterday en route to his old place, near Hughes Spur.
A Mr. Bowman, a fisherman who resided near Burgess, died suddenly Monday night. The interment will take place at Burgess to-day.
All Plain Dealing students in the State University (at Baton Rouge) and the State Normal (at Natchitoches) who spent the holidays at home have left for those places to resume their studies.
