Full Text

For every day service a canteen is maintained in the club. There food is prepared each day and served cafeteria style to the men. Windows curtained in green with bright colored stencils; tables covered with green waterproof material, with a pot of blazing tulips centering each one, soft, restful wall and floor tints—make the place one of joy. Members of the league in big pink aprons and caps serve the men with food and conversation, cheering up the lonely and the downcast. Then there is the department of Overseas relief. There is being done one thing which Seattle alone in the United States accomplishes. Little woolen shawls for aged women in France are made. Women who can crochet but cannot knit, can make them, and the demand is great. Foster Food Production. Food production movements are fostered by the league. War gardens, rabbit growing, poultry raising, canning, are stimulated. Liberty loan campaigns are helped by the league, as well as Y.M.C.A. and other war fund drives. In New York City alone, during the last bond drive, the league secured subscriptions amounting to $1,100,000 in a single week. In Seattle they have assisted and will assist in every undertaking which means the dissemination of information among the people.
