Education.-The Great work of popular instruction is progressing rapidly and successfully, not only in this country. but throughout almost the whole of Europe. In France, at this moment, a liberal and extensive scheme is said to be in operation, whereby the means of 'useful and improving reading' will be afforded to the whole body of the working population of France; placing a public library to each of the 40,000 communes. (or parishes.) into which the Kingdom is divided.' This simple fact speaks volumes (we hope we are not guilty of a pun) in favor of those great principles, which we may believe sprung out of the Revolution of July last; and which may be considered as furnishing the best of guarantees for the hopes now cherished by the good and wise throughout the world. The London Examiner, a weekly paper edited by Leigh Hunt, speaks in highly favorable terms of the 'American Annals of Education,' 'imported' from Boston, by a London Bookseller, as evincing 'candor and ability;' and as being 'one of the best upon the subject' the Editor has seen.-Charleston Courier.
