A MISTAKE OF MILLS
The mistakes of Mills are greater than Issachar ever found in Moses. The Democrats took this wild man from Texas to Brooklyn, and in a public speech, before any one could stop him, he declared that "If Harrison and Morton are elected, which God forbid, you will have free whiskey and the liquor dealers will multiply in the highways and byways, crying 'Ho, all ye that thirst, come into the saloon and drink.' " Imagine the effect of this on a metropolitan Democratic audience! The Democratic leaders have been trying their prettiest to conceal the fact that the Republicans are fighting for free whisky. They have denounced, as a campaign lie, the statement that whisky is given away by the jugful, and beer by the keg, every Republican meeting. They have tried to ignore the settled purpose of the Republicans to set up fountains flowing with free whisky at every street corner. But the Texas man gave it all away.
