A FALL POULTRY SHOW
There is ample interest in poultry in Crisp county to justify the hope that a poultry show of creditable proportions may be held sometime this fall in Cordele. We write of the poultry show because of the promise of poultry interest which it is sure to create throughout the country.
We are at the critical stage just now. All the year the missionary work in poultry has been under way. The county agents have done much. They have had creditable backing from both individuals and from the local civic clubs. Now we are coming to the establishment of a ten-thousand egg hatchery. This is already determined. The next point is certain, countywide substantial support for this enterprise—we want it and must have it. What we can do to have it should be a pleasure for all of us.
The hatchery in its special scope is as pertinent, as important for us, as is the creamery. It must be sustained and we should not spend a moment in hesitation when we can do something that will cause people in our trade territory to tie up with the hatchery and the poultry raising which must result. There is wisdom in letting the hens work for you. There is a cash income that you need—all people need.
They must turn to it because cotton has failed.
Now if we could hold the funerals of the fellows who are going to wear mourning and remain in mourning—and persistently refuse to change the farming program if we could join hands with the others who will have no time to mourn because they are so busy with the cows, hogs, and hens—we would be on the way. The poultry show this fall will help. We owe it to those who are trying to establish poultry development in our trade territory.
