From Vienna, Count Khevenhüller, who commands the Troops which block up Widdin, had summon'd the Bashaw who commands in that Fortress to surrender to the Imperial Arms. To which the Bashaw, who is said to be a gallant Man, replied, That he should defend the Place entrusted to his Command better than the Governor of Nissa had done; and that, agreeable to the Will of the Grand Seignior, he would defend Widdin So long As there was one Man left of the Garrison. General Wallis, who commands in Walachia, was inform'd by a Turkish Officer taken Prisoner, that the Grand Vizir had sent Orders to the Bashaw of Widdin not to surrender the Place, but to defend it to the utmost, he being in hopes of coming to his Relief with a considerable Body of the Army.
