Full Text
We learn that the democracy of this district have nominated the Hon. Thomas J. Turner as their candidate for judge of one of the courts of Illinois -- the new constitution now being put into operation having made the judges of the courts elective. The party has nominated Joseph B. Wells, esq., as a suitable successor to Judge Turner, the present able and faithful representative of the sixth congressional district of that State.
Governor Wells is represented to us as a gentleman of very handsome talents -- eloquent, generous, noble, and warm-hearted. A friend, writing to a representative from that State, says of him, " he is one of the most eloquent public speakers in our State; his character is unblemished; he is free from all cliques or juntos; is of revolutionary stock on both sides, and is generous almost to a fault."
With such a candidate in the field, we, like the writer, entertain no fears as to the result. The democracy of Illinois, as ever, will render a glorious account of itself in August and November; and from no portion of it do we expect more ennobling deeds than from the gallant and oft-tried spirits of the lead-mine district.
We part with Judge Turner with regret; but are glad that his talents will not be lost to his constituents, and that he bids fair to be succeeded by so able a man as Gov. Wells.
