Full Text
Quite a "flare up" took place between the Governor and Senate a few days before the adjournment, in consequence of certain nominations made by the former as Supreme Judges for the State. The present Judges are Messrs. Blackford, Dewey and Sullivan; and the terms of all expiring, Gov. Whitcomb thought proper to drop the two last named gentlemen, and sent up the names of Judge Blackford, W. W. Wick and James Morrison. The Senate confirmed Judge Blackford unanimously, but rejected Messrs. Wick and Morrison. The names of Charles Test and Andrew Davidson were subsequently submitted to the Governor, but with a similar result—they were rejected. E. Chamberlain and S. E. Perkins were then nominated; and upon their rejection—as rejected they were—the Governor again sent in the names of Messrs. Wick and Morrison, but only to be again beheaded. Finally, the Legislature adjourned without confirming any but Judge Blackford.—Ter. Gaz.
