29 Cases Docketed For Court Term In Powhatan County
Twenty-nine cases are on the docket for the February term of the Circuit Court in Powhatan, beginning Monday.
Of that number, 6 are for the grand jury, 10 on the criminal docket, 5 appeals from the county court, 5 on the common law docket and 3 in chancery.
Facing grand jury action are Raymond Brock, Jr., Robert Twine, Floyd Spitzer, William T. McClenny, Melvin Mills and William Corliss Robinson, all of whom are charged with felonies.
On the criminal docket are Alexander Goode, who is charged with an Alcoholic Beverage Control violation, and Norman Reid and Charles A. Smith, both of whom are charged with felonies. Seven men, Jessie Robbins, Freddie Liggins, Lorenzo Haskins, William M. Moore, Moses Taylor, Jr., George Minn and James Saten are not in custody.
Appeals from the county court to be heard are those of Stephen G. Wright, Florence D. Hensley, W. H. May, Jackie May and James Swann, all of whom are charged with misdemeanors.
On the common law docket are the cases of Hattie Phillips v. Andrew Funn; Walter Anderson v. Joseph F. Good; Catherine Fenner v. Joseph F. Good; Andrew E. Godsey v. W. W. Horner and H. H. Cobb v. Elwood Clements. Cobb is suing Clements for $30,000 in a personal injury suit for hitting him with a sassafras root. Clements pled guilty during the last term of court to wounding Cobb.
In chancery, the court will hear the cases of Cave v. Cave and of the state highway commissioner v. W. H. and Pearl O. Sledd and C. E. and Irma Bradshaw. Involved are two condemnation suits to straighten out a bad curve on Route 522.
