The dinner given to General Waddy Thompson at Danville, Va. was attended by about five thousand persons—many of them from North Carolina. General Thompson's speech is represented to have been one of his happiest and most powerful efforts. A number of other gentlemen addressed the company—among them Wm. M. Peyton, Esq. Mr. Witcher, Mr. Tunstall, R. H. Toler, Esq'r. and Gen. Edney, of North Carolina. No spirits or intoxicating drink of any kind was used at the dinner, and the utmost order characterized the whole proceedings.
