Full Text

Webster and Ingersoll.
Mr. Vinton, from the investigating committee, made a report in behalf of himself, (W.) Seaborn Jones (L. F.) D. P. King (W.) and Jefferson Davis (L. F.) entirely exonerating Daniel Webster from Mr Ingersoll's charges, on the 9th inst. They say that the letter of Mr. I. O. J. Smith, to which Mr. Ingersoll referred, might, if unexplained, seem to sustain Mr. I., but explained, as it had been, it did not. The report ends with a resolution, that the testimony be sealed, marked confidential and filed away in the archives, subject to the call of the House.
Mr. Brinkerhoff, of Ohio, L. F. made a minority report in behalf of himself, taking a sort of betwixt and between ground upon the merits of the case, and closing with a resolution that both reports be laid on the table and printed; and that the committee be discharged.
Mr. Douglas moved to lay the reports on the table and print them, which was carried by a vote of 167 to 16.
This does not print the testimony which is to be sealed up and filed away.
