CONSTANTINOPLE.

'Tis hard to imagine anything more deplorable than the Condition this City is in at present: Almost two Thirds are depopulated, vast Numbers having been swept away by the Pestilence, and Abundance of People having fled into the Country. Notwithstanding the Precautions taken in the Seraglio, the Plague has got into it: In the Harem, or Woman's Quarter, our quarter, six have died of it in three Days, and most of the Eunuchs up posted to watch them. Three Ichoglans, or Pages of the Grand Signior, which his Highness has resolved to remove to a Country Palace on the Black Sea. As the Winter draws nigh, it's hop'd the Contagion will cease. This Calamity has occasion'd a Suspension of Business, especially in Regard to Negotiations with foreign Powers, as all their Ministers are gone into the Country.
