Los Angeles Officers Make Arrests When One Phones
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, (U.P) Calling up Detective Lieutenant Buck Weaver at police headquarters, Jack Carpenter, 42, is alleged to have declared he was one of the bandits who robbed the Green Lantern cafe in Las Vegas, Nev., about Christmas.
Carpenter also dared Detective Weaver to come and get him, the offer read.
Weaver accepted the invitation with three other officers and arrested Carpenter and J. Scott, 33, also alleged to have been implicated in the robbery.
The men will be returned to Nevada authorities want them Weaver said
It was said that Carpenter was drinking at the time he phoned his defiance to the police station
District Attorney Harley A. Harmon, upon receiving word of the arrests of Carpenter and Scott, moved that the hearings of Jim Ferguson and James Costegan, charged as accessories and William B. Potter, charged with being a principal in the Green Lantern holdup be postponed until today
It is understood that steps have been taken to bring Carpenter and Scott here from Los Angeles
Sheriff Joe Keate, who has been on the Green Lantern case in person since the commission of the crime, is responsible for the arrest of the suspects here and also for Carpenter and Scott, in Los Angeles.
