We hear from Williamsburg in Virginia, of the following barbarous Affair transacted at Portsmouth in that Province, on Sunday the 24th ult. A transport Ship from the Havannah, having a considerable Number of Spanish Soldiers and Sailors on board, among whom was Don Pedro, the second in command in the Sea service. - with his Family. having sprung a leak, put into Hampton Road to refit : the Spaniards had liberty to carry on Shore at Portsmouth, where they behaved exceeding well ; several Sailors belonging to his Majesty's Ship Arundel, being likewise on Shore. they proposed to rob them, imagining they had a great Quantity of Money with them : The Sailors began with Quarrelling, then proceeded to Blows, and drove the Spaniards into a House, then fired upon them. killed one, wounded several, one of which died of his wounds ; they set Fire to the House in which the Spaniards had lock'd themselves up. and some of them actually went for Powder to Blow them up ; they also broke into the Commandant's House, beat and wounded him, one of the Capts. and all the Domesticks, except two who had hid themselves...A Stop was put to any further Attempts by Capt. Manwaring's going ashore and dispersing his people ; the Norfolk Militia was raised to apprehend all concerned in this affair, some of whom are already committed to Goal.-The Spaniards have a great Sense of the Kindness of the Inhabitants. in their Assistance to rescue them from the Hands of such Villains.
