Three Welfare Groups Meet

The first fall meeting of the Wrangell Health Council, Red Cross and Tuberculosis Association combined was held Tuesday, September 27, in the Health Center.

Nine members were present, with the meeting being conducted by Mrs. Jack Krepps, secretary-treasurer of the Health Council.

It was voted to establish a loan closet to contain articles of use in the sick room. Such articles would be donated by individuals or organizations, to be kept in a central location and loaned out as needed.

The council discussed the need for a social service worker to be stationed in Wrangell to handle social problems. It went on record as recognizing the need and voted to write to Mr. Harmon, director of the Department of Public Welfare, recommending that a social service worker be stationed here.

There was discussion of the need for mid-morning nourishment for school children, especially in the winter. It was decided to investigate possibilities of supplying milk to school children as this need arose.

Mrs. Frank Zepp, secretary of the Wrangell Chapter of the American Red Cross, gave the financial report of that organization. Miss Irene Coulter, chairman of the Wrangell Chapter of the Alaska Tuberculosis Association, gave a report of the expenditures of the Christmas Seal funds so far this year.

The next meeting of the combined organizations will be held October 18. All local organizations are urged to send a representative to this meeting.
