The $100 per capita payment to the Minnesota Chippewas started at this agency at 8 o'clock a. m. Monday morning. Before the office force had arrived many were on hand and waiting for their checks. The shares of minor children are being paid outright to all competent parents and nearly all residents here received the full amount, both their own and their childrens-money. Notwithstanding the fact that the payment put a considerable sum of money at the disposal of each and every family, it is pleasing to note that not one penny: so far as we are able to learn, is being squandered. The Chippewa people are using the money to good advantage and the payment is a big help to them at this time. While there were a number of strangers in the village the fore part of the week, there has been no disorder of any kind. A number of barkers from the surrounding towns were on hand Monday morning soliciting deposits from those who could afford to put some of their money in the bank for future use.
