LET THEM ALONE!

There is one way and only one, in which the voters of this State can support the Democratic cause; and that is by supporting the regularly nominated Democratic ticket. Every vote given for any other ticket will be given against Democracy and in favor of Federalism—against patriotism, and in favor of toryism—against State Reform, and in favor of Algerine tyranny. Let our friends remember this.

Appeals will be made to us—are already made—to support the "Liberty Party" ticket, and thus aid in the emancipation of slaves at the South. It were a good reply to these appeals, that we have not yet emancipated ourselves. It is an equally good one, that every vote thrown for the "Liberty" prox, while it cannot possibly affect slavery at the South, will strengthen federalism at the North, give aid and comfort to Mexico, and tend to prolong a bloody conflict, rivet faster and closer the chains which Algerineism has forged for us in this State, and otherwise obstruct the progress of Democracy to a full redemption of humanity from the fetters of oppression.

The Liberty party in this State is essentially a Federal party. Its candidate for Congress in the Western District, is electioneered for on the ground that he is a better and more consistent Whig than Wilkins Updike! A handbill issued in his favor, speaks of him as an enemy of the "God-abhorred Mexican war", intimates that he would vote against the granting of supplies to our army, and asserts his Whig character in plain and unmistakable terms. Every vote thrown for him, will be thrown for old-fashioned Hartford Convention Federalism—for modern Whiggery—and for Rhode Island Algerineism!

So of other candidates that Democrats will be asked to vote for—the nominees of small parties, formed solely to catch such voters as can be coaxed away from our organization, under some false pretext, and to be turned over to Whiggery proper, whenever that party shall find it necessary to form a coalition with their leaders. They have all the same general destiny; a destiny which Democrats can best avoid by LETTING THEM ALONE.

BEWARE OF THEIR TRICKS.

We caution Democrats to be on their guard against the wiles of Federalism. That old enemy of Republican institutions was never wider awake—though asleep it may affect to be—than at the present moment. It may change its name and its mode of warfare—it may assume guises to please the eye or charm the ear of its intended prey—but itself is not changed. It is the same Janus-faced, crocodile-eyed monster that it ever was. The same tory spirit moves it that did in 1812, and the same deadly hatred of Democracy which has ever marked its course when in power, is yet strong enough in its composition to trample upon every principle of justice and right.

In this State, just now, it makes little pretension to active effort. It would have us believe it is doing little or nothing for the approaching election. But its pretensions must not be believed. We know that it is awake, and in the field. We know that its emissaries are abroad. We know that its handbills and circulars are on the wing. Its organs are not base enough to deal out the falsehoods it would flood the State and poison the minds of the people with; and resort is had to handbills and pamphlets, filled with the basest misrepresentations and the most glaring untruths, which are circulated by night-runners, and for whose slanders and falsehoods, no one is accountable. Let Democrats beware of them, and beware of the party whose weapons they are.

We have no time to spare before the election—none whatever to waste in tracing out the falsehoods of an enemy who is too mean to give us his vilifications in responsible shape. Let us leave him to read his own handbill trash, disregard his protestations of sleepfulness, watch well that none are deceived by his tricks, and ourselves press forward to the conflict. The time is short: and the little or much we would do must be done quickly.
