THE ENDING DRAWING NEAR, AND PUBLIC INTEREST REVIVING.
SNOW HILL, Md., June 16.-In the Duer trial to-day the entire morning and afternoon sessions were consumed in the examination of physicians, called by the State, as to the effects of chloral taken by a patient suffering from nervous depression. They generally expressed the opinion that chloral was not only not injurious, but decidedly beneficial and salutary; that properly administered it rather prolonged than abridged life. As the trial draws to a close the interest appears to be increasing. The opinions of the medical men are as various as their numbers, but all are careful in their answers to the searching cross-examination to which they are subjected. The medical evidence has been, to-day, almost entirely cumulative. There is but little doubt the whole of the testimony will be consumed in argument before the case is given to the jury. The throng in the court house is quite as great to-night as at any time during the trial.
