Full Text
Political Rancor.—Hitherto it has always been usual, in the celebration of the Fourth of July, to give as one of the standing toasts—The President of the United States; and an omission to do so would have been looked upon as an evidence of the want of good breeding and patriotic feeling. But in all the proceedings of meetings composed of the opponents of the present administration, for the late celebration of that day, this standing toast has been omitted. Respect for the office has been entirely lost in the all absorbing feeling of resentment and hostility towards the venerable and distinguished individual who fills it. This simple fact may serve to convince the candid mind that opposition to Gen. Jackson, is not the result of a disapprobation of his measures, but arises entirely from feelings of party rancor.—Delaware Watchmen.
