Full Text

FEMININE OFFICE-SEEKERS.

Evidently the protests of the feminine office-seekers who failed the other day to secure clerkships in the Pension Bureau have made some impression in official quarters, for a statement of the reasons which occasioned their disappointment has been given to the public. It seems that the work to be done was of a kind that could not be conveniently or decently done by clerks of the female persuasion. There are, however, 400 appointments yet to be made, and it is promised that of these the women are to be given a share. This is news which a public that has always been ready to give the fair sex every possible chance will hear with satisfaction, though under the existing system of recruiting the ranks of the civil service the appointment of non-voters to government offices is not a strictly logical proceeding.
