Full Text

Private letters from the Hague, by the last post, mention that the States General are extremely surprised at the conduct of the Elector Palatine towards their republic; not content with having seized (as we formerly mentioned) several chests of gold and silver sent from Amsterdam for Frankfort and other places, as soon as the carriages entered his dominions, under pretences as new as they were frivolous, he has since seized twelve other waggons belonging to the Dutch, laden with merchandizes of great value. Their High Mightinesses, upon the injury offered their subjects in the first seizure, had sent a minister to the Palatine court to know his Electoral Highness's reasons, and solicit a release of the money, which amounts to upwards of 100,000 pounds sterling; but that prince, instead of giving any answer, seized the waggons under the minister's very nose, as they were passing to some market in Germany.
