Bristol Bay—Reds Are
Running Splendidly.

Frank Wright of Seattle, owner of the Carlisle Packing Company, which has canneries at Bristol Bay, Cordova and Lummi Island, near Bellingham, Washington, was a passenger on the Northwestern while she was in port yesterday. Mr. Wright has been inspecting his Alaska canneries, and is pleased with the prospect.

The Carlisle Packing Company had a cannery at the mouth of the Yukon River, but the late Archdeacon Hudson Stuck complained that his operations were interfering with the food supply of the Indians along the Yukon River and its tributaries, and the company was forced to cease. It moved its plant to Igikik, Bristol Bay.

Mr. Wright came to Alaska about six weeks ago. When he left Igikik, two weeks ago, 18,000 cases had been packed, and a full pack of 40,000 cases is expected.

There is a good run of red salmon in the Bering Sea region," said Mr. Wright, "and all the companies operating in the Bristol Bay country will get good packs. They began packing salmon June 25 this year instead of June 20, as usual. If they had begun five days earlier they would have secured full packs without difficulty."

Mr. Wright came out from Bristol Bay via Iliamna and Clark Lakes to Iliamna Bay. From there he went to Seward and then to Cordova, where he inspected his property there. The run of fish in the Prince William Sound country is not as satisfactory as it is in the Bristol Bay region, he says.

Mr. Wright expects to reach Puget Sound before the packing season begins there.
