STOCKHOLM. 198 out of every 1000 inhabitants in Sweden now have a telephone, and 528 Stockholmers out of every 1000 are telephone subscribers.
The increase has been greater than in 1946, states the Swedish Telegraph Board in its annual report. During 1947 direct telephone communication by radio was opened between Sweden and the United States of America. Further, direct radio-telegraph services have been opened with Hungary and Peru.
Of the total number of telephones in the country 59.5 per cent are connected to automatic telephone exchanges.
