Full Text

A conspiracy against the life of the new Governor of Guadaloupe, has been detected, and some of the conspirators executed. La Crosie, the Governor, "was an officer of marines, when France was respected abroad, and flourished at home. He was born a nobleman, and always possessed an ample fortune. He has sustained an unblemished character all his life, except when he received the command of the frigate La Feliceti, and came to Guadaloupe in 1792, with orders he could not execute; which fault he has now come to repair, and he has publicly said, that La Crosie of 1801, is not the La Crosie of 1792, but that he will, to the utmost of his power, protect the planters and other respectable inhabitants of that colony from the machinations of those infernals called Jacobins."
