If any speculations should arise in any mind as to the course of this paper in again coming under the exclusive control of its present editor, let us say, be patient, and the matter will develop itself. If we are not sufficiently known to make a programme of our intentions unnecessary, it is better that it be learned as we proceed, than to make promises which it may be inconvenient or undesirable for us to fulfill. If a supreme love for the interests of the great masses of the people, is an essential of Democracy then we trust we are not entirely without that element; and if labor for that end be labor in the cause of Democracy, then that cause will not suffer for want of our help. As to parties, let us say, we endorse fully the position of the Democracy of Wisconsin, as laid down in their State conventions. We do not however, endorse the position of the National Democracy as laid down in National Convention. That democracy is South Carolina democracy, which, as all know, is very different from Wisconsin Democracy. In supporting Men, we only want to know to which Democracy they profess paramount allegiance. If the nominees of the Wisconsin Democracy are willing to render that democracy subservient to National Democracy, then we are not willing to sustain them; but if, on the other hand they will uphold Wisconsin Democracy, at all times under all circumstances we shall do what we can to uphold them. This is briefly our faith and position.
