The Financial Committee complain that of the money received only a very small proportion comes into the treasury before the middle of the year. They advise, as a remedy for these evils, that 'a monthly publication devoted to Christian beneficence should be issued by the direction of the assembly, to be sent into all the families of the church' to instruct and stimulate the people in the duty of Christian giving.' The United Presbyterian Church and Free Church of Scotland have, it appears, been for some time employing this means of promoting liberality among the people with most gratifying success.
