A Step In the Right Direction

The two lots on the corner of Hazel and Second Streets, owned by the government, and on which the postoffice building is to be erected later on, is to be cleaned off, the grass mowed nicely and benches placed on the ground in a few days, and then Newport can boast of a little "City Park" all her own.

It is thought six or eight incandescent lights will probably be hung under the trees and in addition four of our enterprising business men have donated a nice bench each, which will certainly be appreciated by our people who have the least civic pride as to our city's welfare at heart. Among those who have donated benches are Mayor Paul, Norman C. Wolff, S. Heinemann and the City Drug Co.

Newport has long needed such a place, not only for our own people to while away the hours, but for our friends from the country, especially the women and children who are cordially invited to come to our little park and rest while in town trading.
