What happens to a gentleman farmer when farming is over?

The question is up for discussion.

At present I can speak only for myself. This gentleman farmer has turned to a Gentleman Canner.

It's been going on for two or three weeks, or have you already noticed the stain on my fingernails? Beans, corn, beets, peaches, tomatoes, and whatnot have been flying at me so thick and fast that in my sleep I string tomatoes, peel corn, husk peaches and wash the fuzz off beets. I even had two quarts of boiled potatoes canned one evening before I realized they were for dinner.

When dressed in full regalia I take my punishment with a smile.

But it'll be different this winter when the time comes to open them.
