The temperance movement which is now displaying such force throughout the west and southwest, is of an entirely different character from any other similar agitation which has attracted attention of society heretofore. It does not aim at the mutilation of the individual but appeals to the public conscience against the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors as a beverage and asks for an expression of public opinion with reference thereto. It goes before the people as a question of right vs wrong, and asks them to decide a constitutional matter with the aid of their reason. Furthermore the western states. Kansas and Iowa they have answered, and Missouri, some Kansas as maintains that the dispensers late to give expression to their preference in the thought that it is answered already. Characteristic feature of temperance, but rest it goes on well and now for a new with sternness and momentum which shows the popular will. It means to act as societies a great moral decision which the majority has clearly agreed upon and are determined to enforce. If this is the state it marks a period in our civilization where the elevation of the enforces is a notable feature, and shows that the individual is rapidly arriving at the altitude of moral development where he has a task to love what follows and works out his nature, and in the language of ab when tempted upon the thousand up to that which he conscions to be wrong. "I will than hell and Satan and enforce his command" Should this be the nature of the present temperance movement in the United States, there is no power to stay its progress, and the inevitable will sooner or later have to be submitted to in all the states.
