Must Sacrifice Everything
For 'Encircled' Nation,
Gen. Tojo Warns

TOKYO, Oct. 20.-(P)-Declaring Japan "encircled" by foreign powers, Premier General Eiki Tojo today called upon the country's people and fighting forces to display the "iron unity" necessary to bring the empire through its 'crucial hour.'

His appeal for unity and an address to be prepared to sacrifice everything for their country, were paper assertions to the effect that Japan neither would challenge the United States and Great Britain to war in the Pacific, nor shrink from a challenge from them.

CHAPEL SERVICE
The Rev. F. Smith Johnston, pastor of Immanuel Presbyterian church, will preach Tuesday night at the Chapel-on-the-Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach, at 8 o'clock.

RELIGIOUS PICTURES
A group of religious pictures will be shown Tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock at the Carolina Beach Community church. The pictures will be shown on stereopticon slides by the Rev. W. A. Pew, pastor of the Federal Point Methodist church.

The entertainment is free to the public.

"SATISFACTORY"
The condition of Shafter Davis, 14-year-old white youth of Supply, severely bitten by rattlesnakes, was reported Monday as being "satisfactory" by attendants at James Walker Memorial hospital. Young Davis fell into a 'den' of snakes near his home several days ago.

NEW WORKER
Miss Pauline Aungst of Toledo, Ohio, arrived in Wilmington Monday on a "loan" from American Red Cross headquarters, to assist in home service work being performed by the local chapter, Mrs. Ida Speiden, executive secretary, said today. Miss Aungst will remain here about a month.

Mrs. Speiden also announced that 15 persons, all employees of the Tide Water Power company, had completed first aid courses, under the direction of Bert W. Blake.
